With the increasing integration of technology, Walpole High School is becoming more and more modern. The newest addition to the school is the inception of an ID scanner used for tardy attendance in the morning. This new device would replace the old system of late passes, and decrease the amount of time in the office in the morning.
This “grocery store scanner” is much faster, according to Attendance Office Secretary Francine Kelly. It will also “help students as much as teachers,” as the only step necessary in the process will be to scan a bar code on a card. Mrs. Kelly believes this will speed up the process, and make everything go much more smoothly than the previous system. In the previous system, students would wait in an oftentimes very long line to sign in and get a pass. Although this was simple, it was very time-consuming and slowed everyone down, making everyone even later to class. By scanning all of their data immediately into the computer, the new system ensures that students who are tardy to school will make it to their classes in a much more timely fashion than they would have before.
Even though the school is not planning to expand this system for individual classes, there “have been talks of expanded it into the library to check out books and to check students in and out of the library. There have also been talks of expanding it to the cafeteria to replace the pin number system.”
