Meet the Captains: Girls Cross Country

Danielle Dentremont

When did you first begin playing this sport?

I began running cross country in the middle school program, but did not begin competing until freshman year.

Do you want to continue this sport in college?

I might continue to run on the club or intramural level.

Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?

Both Coach Cashman and Coach Murphy have been prominent coaches in my sports career. I have known Coach Murphy since middle school cross country, so she has been a constant motivator and mentor throughout my running career. Coach Cashman always challenges me to achieve individual goals while ensuring that my team and I work together to achieve the greater goals of maintaining team spirit and running to win meets as a team.

What other activities/clubs are you involved in?

I am also an Editor-in-Chief of The Searchlight, I run indoor track and outdoor track and have been involved in Film Festival.

What was a highlight of your season this year?

One of the highlights of my season this year was running a strong race in my final dual meet against Milton, which is the team that has been a consistent competitor for my team over the past four seasons.

What goals did you and your team accomplish this year?

Ultimately, I am grateful that I was able to have some form of a senior cross country season, despite COVID-19. I think that we accomplished the goal of making the best out of a strange season of running in masks and am really happy that my co-captains and I were able to share a final season together.

Who were some big opponents/rivals? Why?

Milton has always been our biggest rival against whom we usually compete to win the divisional title. Although there was not a divisional meet this year, Milton was extremely competitive in dual meets as was a strong Weymouth team.

When did you first begin playing this sport?

7th grade.

Do you want to continue this sport in college?

Not officially but I plan to keep running on my own or with a club.

Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?

Fiona Murphy and Conor Cashman were both prominent coaches in my running career. Fiona Murphy was my XC/track coach since middle school and her middle school program was what got me into running, and Cashman’s training was what made me a competitive runner.

What other activities/clubs are you involved in?

Film and Journalism.

What goals did you and your team accomplish this year?

Because of the pandemic it was definitely hard for our team to be on the same level of competitiveness as we usually are. Due to COVID-19 regulations, we didn’t have the postseason meets that had previously been some of our best performances. So I’m just proud that my team was able to adapt and have a solid season with dual meets despite not having the chance to compete for the titles we usually do.
