On Oct. 17, critically acclaimed pop star, Tate McRae, brought her “Miss Possessive Tour” to Boston for its third show. The tour has been on the road since March and is set to conclude in November. Throughout its eight months of shows, the “Miss Possessive Tour” was in Boston on Aug. 26 and 27 as well as Oct. 17. McRae added a second U.S. leg of the tour due to the success of the tour upon the first ticket sales.
In the original U.S. leg of the tour, the supporting act was Swedish pop-powerhouse Zara Larsson, who performed hits such as “Lush Life” and recently-viral “Symphony.” However, the second leg of the tour welcomed a new supporting act, Alessi Rose. Rose recently opened for Noah Kahan’s “The Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever)” U.K. tour and Dua Lipa’s U.K. shows of the “Radical Optimism Tour.” Rose has released three EPs and has a deluxe version of her most recent EP, “Voyeur” releasing in early November.
McRae’s show features fire and smoke effects, as well as backup dancers to make the show more entertaining for all. The show also features many solos for her band to play, in songs such as “Siren Sounds” and “run for the hills.” Since her childhood, McRae has always had a passion for dance. In the past, she has been on shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” and has won various awards for her dancing. McRae uses this experience to her advantage with multiple dance breaks throughout the show, featuring intense choreography and striking visuals.
In the past, McRae has said that Boston is her favorite city to perform in, which made the show extra special. Her love for Boston is because of personal experiences that inspired her song “think later”, which features a lyric mentioning a night out in Boston, as well as the strong energy from fans that she receives in the city. She also mentions Boston in one of singles off of her latest album, “So Close To What”, titled “Revolving door”.
“I’ve been dreaming about my whole life just to play a headline show [at TD Garden],” McRae said.
Even in vulnerable moments, McRae captured the audience with stunning visuals and outfits. She frequently mentions that Boston is one of her favorite cities to perform in, which made the show even more exceptional. As of now, McRae has produced three albums, “i used to think i could fly,” debuted in May 2022, “THINK LATER,” which was released in December 2023 and her latest album, “So Close To What,” which topped charts starting in February of this year. Even though “So Close To What” is her most successful album, each album features a hit that she plays on tour.
The “Miss Possessive Tour” is McRae’s best and most successful tour yet, as it highlights her career and how she continues to evolve as an artist. Currently, there are no more shows scheduled from McRae in Boston, as the tour is set to conclude on Nov. 8, but she will most definitely return on future tours.
