Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. have done it again: U2’s “No Line on the Horizon” is another hit in the band’s long history of successful albums.
The album is a mix of traditional U2 style combined with some darker and more experimental tunes. “Crazy Tonight” and “Magnificent” are some of the typical U2 tracks, while “Tripoli” offers a more electronic and choral-based style. The first single, “Get On Your Boots,” is similar to “Vertigo” with the fast-paced lyrics and heavy percussion.
“No Line on The Horizon” has generated a lot of controversy between the aborted sessions with Rick Rubin, release date delays due to the band needing more songs and the entire album leaking weeks before its release. However, Bono still manages to capture his uplifting and romantic song-writing style of “All That You Can’t Leave Behind.”
The cover, a photo by Hiroshi Sugimoto, depicts calm and gray waters with a flat horizon– suggesting either limitless possibilities ahead, or fear for the future. Either way, U2 has an exciting horizon ahead of them.
