After a 2-0 win over Bishop Feehan last Saturday, the Rebels faced off in their final regular season game against the Norwood Mustangs last Tuesday, November 2.  Because of poor field conditions in both Norwood and Walpole, the game was played at a neutral site in Milton.  This rivalry match was surely a battle as both sides broke even with the final score of 1-1.

The first half of the game was relatively silent from both sides, with neither team taking advantage of their opponent’s mistakes.  Both teams headed into halftime with no score.  The second half was a quite different story, with both teams scoring goals.  Walpole’s senior forward Conor Murtagh scored yet another goal, making it his 17th on the season.  With their guard down after the goal, the Mustangs fired right back with a goal of their own almost immediately.  With the score tied at one, neither team could get ahead as time ran out.  The Rebels were deeply upset that they couldn’t replicate their 3-0 win they had over Norwood earlier this season.  “We just weren’t able to put the ball in the net when it mattered,” said junior Captain Nolan Murray.

Despite the tie, the Rebels finished the season with a 12-3-3 record, thus winning the Herget Division.  The Rebels now look towards the state tournament which starts on Saturday.  The Rebels first game is home on Monday, November 7, against an always competitive Brockton team; however, they are confident nonetheless.  “After last year’s first-round loss, we are determined to go much farther this season,” said Murtagh.  After losing to Braintree in the opening round of last year’s playoffs, the Rebels hope to improve on last years’ success.
