On January 4, the Boys Hockey team took the long bus ride to the Walter Brown Arena in Boston in search of their first win against the Brookline Warriors.  Sporting an unimpressive record of 0-2-3, this game was a must win for the Rebels.  Walpole knew this and came out hungry for a win.  In the first period, junior John MacDonald stepped up as he scored two goals to put the Rebels up 2-0.  Walpole was all over Brookline during the second period as well as the Rebels added on two more goals for a comfortable 4-0 lead.  The only bad part of the game was the third period, as the Rebels repeatedly got penalties.  Junior goalie Ray Mortali’s shutout was ruined when Brookline scored on a power play.  Despite the late Warrior goal, the Rebels still held on to win 4-1 and secured their fist victory of the season.  The celebration could not last long; however, as Walpole had to look to their next game against a solid Wellesley team.

In a battle of two Herget Division foes, Walpole hosted Wellesley in a big game on Saturday, January 7 at Iorio Arena.  The star of this game was junior Captain John White who finished the night with a hat trick, as well as the game winning goal.  The Rebels came out of the gate looking good, as they scored two goals quickly.  Wellesley answered with a goal of their own near the end of the period to put the score at 2-1 going into the first intermission.  After a hard fought second period the game was 3-2 in the third period.  With a minute left, Walpole struggled to get the puck out of the zone and as a reult, Wellesley scored the tying goal.  Not satisfied with a mere tie, junior Captain John White took the puck wide going into Wellesley’s zone and with about 10 seconds left in regulation time, snuck the puck by Wellesley’s goalie.  Not only did this win the game for the Rebels, but gave White a hat trick as well.  The victory was the first win for Walpole at home this year and improved their record to 2-2-3.
