The Walpole Rebels faced the Milton Wildcats last Friday, January 13, in Milton. The Rebels kept their win streak alive with the final score of 37-29.
The Rebels had an extremely slow start, with a mere two points at the end of the first quarter. Knowing that it would be nearly impossible to win the game continuing at the same tempo as they opened up to, the Rebels picked up the intensity for the remainder of game play. They finished up the half with a total score of 12 points. These points include a three point shot from junior Bridget Nicholson and two baseline jump shots from sophomore Nell Sandvos.
Coming out of halftime, the Rebels maintained their second quarter intensity, especially on the defensive end. Nicholson, along with senior Adrianna Frattasio, contributed several deflections with their full court pressure on the Wildcats. In addition to the deflections, the Rebels had a game total of six steals — four of which were from Nicholson.
Both senior Suzy Gallivan and junior Lauren Bodin had a clutch three-pointer which kept the momentum of the game in favor of Walpole in the third quarter of game play.
Senior Captain Shannon Cullen and freshman Summer King were powerful on both the offensive and defensive boards, snagging six and five rebounds respectively. Cullen and King also converted two of these offensive rebounds into points for the Rebels, with easy layups due to the lack of height on the Wildcats’ roster.
Nicholson sealed the victory when she went five for six from the free throw line in the fourth quarter alone. The second half of game play was significantly better for the Rebels, scoring a total of 25 points, compared to the 12 point put on the board in the first half.
It may not have been a picture perfect victory for the Rebels, but it contributed yet another win to the Rebels 6-1 record.
