As the Winter months continue to drag on, most students are feeling lethargic and weary. With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, many are looking for that special someone to celebrate the day with. But no need to worry Walpole High–Student Council has the solution for you.
Student Council will be hosting its second annual Date Auction Monday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tickets will be on sale during lunch for $5 as well as being sold at the door. After a successful turnout last year, StuCo hopes to provide a fun Valentine’s Day for students once again in the midst of Winter Spirit Week. Winter Spirit Week, which began February ninth, will continue until February 16 with dress-up days to excite students and raise their involvement within the school. Monday is Tye-Dye Day, followed by Pink and White Day for Valentine’s Day, Witness the Fitness Wednesday (wear your best 80’s workout clothes), and Nerd Day on Thursday.
The Date Auction, which is being organized by Emma Comiskey and Seana Cofsky as the event leaders along with the rest of Student Council members, will feature seniors who are willing to auction themselves off for StuCo Bucks (which can be earned by dressing up for spirit week). Ms. Kerry Mcmenimen and Mr. Richard Kim will be acting as the hosts for the second time. One change, however, is that last year, after being auctioned off, the seniors and their dates were moved into the cafeteria and their dates were broadcasted over the projector in the auditorium for the audience to see. But this year, the decision has been made to feature the dates on stage–a decision that is sure to provide many laughs for those watching. Also, some of the Student Council members will act as waiters and provide food and drinks for those on their Valentine’s Day date.
Among the seniors brave enough to auction themselves off will be Christina Freiberger, Rebecca Goula, Jackie Reilly, Tim Conley, and Justin Connolly. All of the seniors being auctioned off will pick their own theme song to come on stage to and can also choose to dress up in a crazy outfit of their choice–things sure to attract more bidders. With the Date Auction quickly approaching, students around the school are dressing up to earn StuCo Bucks and Student Council is continuing to work and finalize their plans for the event. Junior Emma Comiskey said, “I think everyone on StuCo would agree that the first priority is for everyone to come and have an awesome time.”
