Like a politician who has done many great things, their time eventually comes for them to leave and move away from their current job. Politicians are never liked by everyone and they sooner or later loose their ability to make an impact. This same concept applies to Terry Francona. Terry Francona had many accomplishments with the Red Sox, but the problem is that he has been there too long. He has lost his support from his fans and his effectiveness towards the game.
Terry Francona lost one of the most important things to him, his fans. The fans just do not support him anymore. This past September was the worst September collapse in baseball history for the Red Sox. It was painful for everyone to watch loss after loss of games for the Red Sox. The fans did not have any faith in the team or him.
There could have been many things factoring in that made Terry Francona lose his effectiveness. Two things were losing the respect of his players and the support of his fans which concluded in him losing his effectiveness. In addition Terry Francona had many things going on in his life that could easily have distracted him. It was rumored that he was having marital problems. He has had several knee surgeries and was on pain medication that has been blamed to have affected his ability to manage.
Everything began to pile up for Terry Francona which put him in a bad situation. Nothing was really going right for him. One bad thing after another kept happening for this man. This year was a bumpy road for Terry Francona but his pay check always came in smoothly. Sympathy is something he may deserve but he is a well compensated man with a multimillion dollar salary. He had many responsibilities; some would say he took care of those responsibilities but others would strongly disagree.
Terry Francona is nowhere near a bad guy in the sports industry; he has done some great things with the Red Sox that have made history. The first year Terry Francona managed he had a 98-64 record. That record in baseball, that year, was the second best record behind first best, New York Yankees. In his first year of managing Terry Francona was able to lead his team to their first World Series Championship since 1968. Much greater than just going to the World Series Championship, they won in 2004. Last time the Red Sox won the World Series was in 1918. Finally the Red Sox won the World Series breaking the superstition, the Curse of the Bambino. Terry Francona did not stop there; he then got another victory under his belt at the World Series in 2007.
After leaving the Red Sox, Terry Francona tried to get the job as the Manager for the St. Louis Cardinals, but sadly he did not get the job. Then the job to manage for Chicago Cubs came up, but he did not see himself fitting in there, so he did not take the job.
Terry Francona is not giving up though. Even though he is not managing in 2012 he is trying to seek opened positions so he can still be connected with the game. For game one of the World Series he broadcasted with Joe Buck on FOX. Broadcasting is a good choice on his part for right now in his life. Because of what has happened over the recent years of him being a manager for the Red Sox it is time for him to make another name for himself in the business.
Terry Francona’s time has come for him to leave the Red Sox. It is sad, but it is true he needs to go. He has lost his effectiveness and fans and players just do not see him the same way anymore. His future is bright though with new opportunities and new decisions to make.
