The Girls Varsity Volleyball team had a challenging match against the Dracut High School Middies on Monday September 28 in the Elm Street School gym. With Dracut ready to show Walpole who’s boss, the Rebels prepared themselves for a grueling game. The first match started off quickly with both teams fighting for every point. With the Rebels keeping their serves strong and keeping an eye on the boundaries they grabbed consecutive points from Dracut. The Rebels took the first match with a score of 25-23 with seniors Samantha Cametti and Jacqueline Dolan giving their all. With the Rebels spirits high, they charged into the second match hoping to accomplish another victory; however, the Middies had a tremendous amount of team spirit from their watching fans. Starting off strong but eventually trailing behind for most of the second match, the Rebels could not exceed the number of points earned by Dracut. Sophomore Shannon Cullen’s spiking and blocking along with junior Jacqueline Clinton’s continuously swift serves were not enough to overcome the Middies. Losing the second match 19-25, the Rebels had to turn the game around if they wanted to defeat Dracut’s constant fight for the win. In the third match, Walpole kept the lead for a while, but Dracut was not falling far behind. Although Michaela and Erin Nee, the sister duo, brought in points as well as keeping the Middies from earning them with their serving, blocking and spiking, it simply wasn’t enough to stop Dracut from winning the match 19-25. With the pressure on the Rebs to win the match, they came to the court with the determination and the perseverance to win. The game was intense but the outcome remained the same with Dracut winning by four points with a final score of 25-21. The Dracut Middies took the victory with three wins and one loss, proving their point that Walpole is merely the employee.
