On Wednesday, April 4, girls from all grades gathered in the cafeteria to begin a night completely devoted to them: Girls Night Out. As guests came in, many began to fill out dozens of raffle tickets, hoping to win one of the coveted prizes. For its first time, Student Council was able to gather all of their closest friends and relatives introducing them to the stations, one by one. Along with the consulting, there were plenty of cookies, cupcakes, and coffee to go around for all of the guests.
The stations, or sections of the cafeteria, were generally split up into five different stations, including refreshments. The make-up artist/consultant Courtney Marzilli, who is a freelance artist, demonstrated how she would go about doing one’s makeup for their big night, and ended up doing many girls makeup throughout the event. Likewise, the dress consultant from Fairy Tales & Fantasy voiced her opinion based on each girl and told them which dress she thought would suit them so that they would look their best. Kathy Tierney, a hairstylist from Anthony Frederich salon in Dedham was also there to share her expertise. There were even two representatives from LA fitness, located at the Walpole Mall, who handed out free 3-day passes to their gym, (much to everyone’s enjoyment) and talked about fitness and nutrition.
“This was my first time coming to an event like this, and I found it very interesting and fun,” said make-up and hair consultant Kathy Tierney. With all the stress of prom or semi-formal, a night totally dedicated to relieving the duties of each girl is much needed, and widely appreciated.
“Overall, I think the night was a success and was well enjoyed,” said Student Council adviser Ms. Mac. In total, the night raised about 480 dollars to split for donation to the Fairy Godmother Project, who is “making prom dreams come true for financially troubled teens,” and Make a Wish Foundation—an organization that grants wishes for children with life-threatening conditions.
After a successful first event with the amount made for charity exceeding expectations, Student Council already has plans for next year. Girls Night Out will be more of an open fair, and invite many different businesses to increase the money for charity and overall satisfaction, which will make the night an even better experience than this year.
