The high school’s exemplary art program headed by Mrs. Diana Hampe was again honored as senior Olivia Caron was selected to attend Art All-State this past May. Art All-State is a program designed to help students explore artistic creativity beyond the usual high school projects. The rigorous application involves the submission of two art pieces, a self-portrait and another of one’s own choosing, a teacher recommendation and an essay regarding what inspires one’s artwork. Following this process two students per high school in Massachussetts are chosen to be interviewed by a panel of art teachers, where they must present a third piece of their artwork. The students with the most points from their application and interview will proceed to the Art All-State.
In May, 142 of the state’s best high school artists converged on the Worcester Art Museum for two days of exploration and collaborative art making. The students worked with 16 professional artists and mentors to create their art installation, which incorporated inspiration from the museum’s exhibits and the talents of the different art students. World renowned tape artist, Michael Townsend was one of the artists in residence; he allowed the students to see him “draw” on the exterior wall of the museum using biodegradeable artist’s tape.
This fantastic opportunity was awarded to senior Olivia Caron because of her exceptional art. Her works now are celebrated not only within the halls of the high school, but also in grander arenas where her talents can be better appreciated.
