Across the country, thousands of fundraisers are held by breast cancer foundations each year. From the Avon Walk—arguably one of the most prominent—to the Ellie fund, these foundations raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research annually. This year, Walpole High School has decided to join the fight by holding an event of their own: the Pink Dance.
Organized by Walpole High School’s Student Council, the dance will be held on Saturday, September 29th from 7:30-11:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Unlike previous events held by student council, such as the Winter Ball, this one will be casual rather than semi-formal. The one dress requirement is that students wear as much pink as possible to show their support for the fight against breast cancer.
Tickets will be sold at lunch from Wednesday, September 26th through Friday, September 28th and cost $10.00 each. All profits made will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The main goal of the dance is to not only provide a fun, social event for students, but also to benefit a worthy cause. Micaela Barry, the head of the event, said, “Our goal is to raise $500 and to hopefully get at least 200 students to attend the dance and show support for the great cause.”
The dance will be chaperoned by various teachers from around the school, including Ms. Mac, Student Council advisor, Mr. Morris, Mr. Hahn, Ms. Long, and Ms. Notterbart. Staying true to the pink theme, student council will make sure for there to be plenty of pink lemonade and pink cotton candy to go around.
It is the hope of student council that this fundraiser will be successful- successful enough to become an annual event here at Walpole High.
