When Rebels Volleyball walked onto the court on October 31, their senior night, they knew they would have to work harder then they have in other matches if they wanted to win and gain a good position for tournament. Although they had one bad match, they ended up beating Braintree 3 to 1.
Walpole and Braintree both battled in the first match as one team would take the lead and then the other would have to fight to take it back. However, Walpole finished it for the win and a score of 26 to 24.
Going into the second match, Braintree was discouraged after losing the first match, which Walpole realized and took advantage of. A mixture of good plays from Walpole and errors from Braintree led to another Rebel win of 25 to 17.
Hopes of ending the game in one more match were high on the Walpole side, but they began to break down as the match began. The Rebels could not regain the lead once they were down and Braintree had gained momentum at that point, so the Rebels wound up losing 25 to 10 due to multiple errors on their side.
The Rebels knew that if they went into five matches, Braintree would battle hard for the win because they are a strong team, so they had to stop them in the fourth match. Their determination helped them, and everything improved greatly from their last match where it all seemed to fall apart. Once they got back into their groove, they could have fun with their senior night and finish it off, which they did with a score of 25 to 20.
The Rebels ended the game with a winning score of 3 to 1. Their final record of 14-4 caused them to finish as number 10 in the state and number 7 in Division I in the state, which is a huge improvement from last year when they were number 55 in the state and number 39 in Division I.
After this win, the Rebels were expecting to have a home game for the first round of post season. It was a shock when they found out that they got a bye for the first round, since they ended up as the fifth seed, and have an away game in Dartmouth.
