The Walpole Rebel Cheerleading team took on the Bay State League on Thursday, November 1 at Braintree High School. This was the girl’s first league competition of the season. The Rebels finished with a score of 81.75 beating Milton by 21.75 points to take home the Division II Bay State Champs title. Walpole also beat Dedham, Milton, Natick and Norwood becoming the Fall 2012 Bay State Herget Champions. Five other teams such as Framingham, Braintree, Newton North, Weymouth and Needham competed against the Rebels to fight for the overall Bay State League Champs title. Walpole fell short to Braintree, a Division I team, by only 1 point; placing second out of 10 teams. Teams competing in the Bay State competition have a goal of scoring at least 67 points to move on to the South Sectional Regional competition on November 11 at Dartmouth High School. Seven out of the ten teams achieved that goal, including the Rebels, who exceeded that goal by 14.75 points. The Rebels will be competing against 11 other teams from the South Sectional area on November 11. The girls will be putting in their hardest practices these next few weeks because this is the peak of their season. The Rebels will need to place in the top two teams or score a minimum of 80 points at Regionals to advance to the Massachusetts State Championships on November 18.
The Rebels got more practice in this past Sunday, November 4, competing in the MAC League/Invitational at Tri-County High School. The girls competed in the Open Division portion of the competition while the other portion was the MAC League competition. Walpole competed against Natick, Medway and Norton in the Open Division and took first place by 4 points. The girls nailed their preformance, making it one of their best to date. The girls scored 84.75 points which is the highest score in Walpole High School history. The teams score was so high they won Grand Champions of the day beating out all 8 teams in the Open Division and the MAC League division. Walpole cheerleaders are looking to take their high scores and stellar performances to Regionals this Sunday, November 11, to achieve their goal of moving on to States and eventually, hopefully qualifying for the National Championships.
