The ABC comedy ‘Boy Meets World’ was no doubt one of the most popular tv shows of the 90s. Even teenagers today enjoy the classic love story of Corey and Topanga—high school sweethearts destined to be together forever. They found the true love everyone dreams of, and their quirky relationship amused all. Topanga was the smart, beautiful girl who was way out of Corey’s league, and yet the two turn out to be soul mates. And now, one of TV’s most beloved couple ever is back! Ben Savage (who plays Corey) and Danielle Fisher (as Topanga) have officially signed on to star in Disney Channel’s sequel called ‘Girl Meets World’. Yes, it is true, Corey and Topanga are back as a married couple and parents to 13 year old Riley, whom the show is focused on.
The show is still in the very early stages on development, and a casting search is underway for Riley Matthews. Also, Michael Jacobs, creator and producer of “Boy Meets World,” will take charge on the spin-off, which makes fans of the original series very excited because they believe he will stick to the roots of the show. Both Fisher and Savage are very excited to begin production on the sequel. Savage tweeted, “I’m going to be a father! Well, on TV at least. The ‘Boy Meets World’ sequel is officially happening!”, and Fisher posted on a thank you on her Tumblr page saying, ” “First of all, let me say that you, the fans of “Boy Meets World,” have been awesome. That word is often used incorrectly by people, including myself, on a daily basis but you have truly been awe inspiring. You, yes, even YOU, are the reason that ‘Girl Meets World’ WILL BE MADE.” Clearly, the show is already getting a big hype. All the fans of BMW are hoping for an equally addicting sequel.
The new series will also include Riley’s edgy best friend Maya, who sounds like a spin-off of Corey’s pal Shawn Hunter. Also, Corey will be a history teacher, just like his mentor and childhood neighbor Mr. Feeny. Many fans are hoping for the return of Mr. Feeny, a definite favorite on the show, but there has been no confirmation on this yet, so all the Feeny fans out there should keep their fingers crossed! There has not been much information released yet on the plans for the show because it is the very beginning of its production, but if it is anything like “Boy Meets World,” it is sure to be a hit. However, competing with the classic will certainly be difficult.
