When people think of after school activities, sports are usually the first things that come to mind. However, sports are not the only activities that require dedication, hardwork, and practice. Many extracurricular activities are forgotten and poorly funded. But this year, there will be a chance for those activities to be recognized and supported.
On Thursday, February 28, from 6-8 p.m. Walpole High School’s Student Council will be hosting the Rebel Schowcase. The Rebel Showcase is an all you can eat spaghetti dinner held in the cafeteria. The cost of the Rebel Showcase is ten dollars and all the proceeds go to benefit extra curricular activities at the school such as Green Team, Dance Company, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Speech Team, Jazz Band, and Robotics Team. The Rebel Showcase is open to all parents and students but privilege cards are not accepted. The entrance fee also buys raffle tickets to unknown prizes.
Not only will the Rebel Showcase have all- you- can -eat pasta, it will also feature performances in the auditorium by members of the Dance Company and teaser trailers for the upcoming Film Festival movies. Some Dance Company members will perform either solos, duets, or group routines. Junior Amanda Guidoboni will perform in a group dance with sophomores Rachel Graham, Diane Maher, Sabrina DiMartino, and Maria Konstas. Senior Amber Walsh will perform a duet with her younger sister, sophomore Emerald Wash. Also, trailers for this year’s Film Festival movies will be shown. In addition, there will be a Jazz Band performance at the end of the night.
Junior Dance Company choreographer Mary McAvoy said, “I think this is a good opportunity for groups in the school who do not have a lot of support to be able to raise a lot more money than they would on their own. This event should continue in future years, but with more preparation to have a more entertaining night.” Even if this event is not a success this year, it has the potential to bring revenue in for extracurricular activities in the future.
