On Saturday, March 23rd, Walpole High School will be hosting movie showings at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. as a fundraiser for getting air conditioning in the high school auditorium. The fundraiser will be the second held to raise money for AC, as a movie showing was also held over February vacation. The group working to fundraise includes students and faculty from the Film Festival, Student Council, and various other clubs throughout the school which use the auditorium.
The total cost to put air conditioning into the auditorium is about $100,000–a costly price, but one that will be worth it for the air conditioning. Ms. Laura Kerr, one of the teachers helping to run the event, said, “Getting AC put into the auditorium won’t just benefit the high school students and teachers, but the entire community.” From the annual musical, Dance Company Show, and Hypnotist to town meetings, there are numerous events that are held in the auditorium throughout the year. School meetings are held regularly in the auditorium, even during the hot summer months, when temperatures can reach more than 90 degrees, making AC a necessity.
The movies shown will be appropriate for all ages, and everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to attend. The showings are free, but a $5 donation is encouraged. All proceeds will go towards air conditioning for the auditorium, something that would improve conditions for all future events held there.
