After two of the biggest meets of the season already under their belts, the Rebel boys track team had no trouble dismantling their third opponent, Norwood, on Tuesday. Triumphing with an impressive 87-49 victory, the Rebel runners are once again riding high on the path to another Herget championship.
The meet started off on the right foot for the Rebels with a first place by junior Jackson Paslaski with a time of 16.2 seconds in the 110m hurdles. Despite nursing shin splints, Paslaski won Walpole’s first event. Adding to the Rebel lead in the 100m dash were juniors Alex Lee and Mike Gilmartin with times of 11.2 and 12.1 respectively to take first and third place. The boys once again took the majority of the points in the mile with senior captain Ben Goula running 4:43 for first place and junior Dave Wians taking second with a time of 4:52. After a streak of winning three straight track events, the Rebels took one more with the outstanding 4 by 100 relay team taking first.
With the first relay was in the books, Norwood took its first win home with a first in the 400 meter race. Walpole runners Alex Garr and Gilmartin took home 2nd and 3rd. Also taking 2nd and 3rd were senior Andy Lewis and Paslaski in the 400 hurdles. Concluding a strong showing of mid distance events was the 800, where only senior captain Ryan Doherty placed third.
Despite the swing of wins for Norwood in the middle of the meet, the Rebels got back on track with the 200, where senior captain Joey Rockwood led senior Joe Gallagher and sophomore Colby Locke to a sweep. The Rebel distance runners also took home first and second in the 2 mile and won the 4 by 400 meter relay to conclude the track events.
Adding to Norwood’s struggles was domination in the field by Walpole. Taking First and third in the discus and long jump as well as taking first and second in the javelin and the high jump added 28 points to the Rebel score.
With such a dominating performance, the Rebels hope to carry their momentum as they face their next big Bay State challenge–Natick. Knowing the meet will require top performances by all of its athletes, the Rebels know there is much work ahead.
