The Walpole Public Library was full of students, parents, and teachers for the annual District Art Show last Wednesday. This exhibit is a culmination of the yearly work of students all ages and grades from every school in the town of Walpole. Art ranged everything from the beautiful paper mache reliefs from many talented middle schoolers, to the refined work of Walpole High School’s AP Art students.
A large showing of parents and small children arrived at the library bubbling with excitement at seeing their work exhibited at a place where many of them spend a good amount of time. Indeed, critics who argued that the library was a waste of money would be hard pressed to say the same after this art show, seeing the beautiful use of space and artwork, and witnessing the happiness of children overjoyed to see their own work on display for all to see. For these kids and their parents, it’s a dream come true to see their art in a public place.
When asked how this year’s show compared to last year’s, the general consensus was that while the show last year was great, it was a bit cramped and crowded, and that the amount of art on display had to be smaller, because the show was held downstairs in the children’s library section. This year, however, student art spanned the entire library, covering every wall, shelf, and partition. The span of artwork was astonishing, featuring student artwork from kids in kindergarten to kids in twelfth grade. It was a beautiful display of the hard work, talent, time, and effort these students put into this beautiful creativity.
Some highlights from the art show were the amazing works of the AP students from Walpole High. It is evident through their work, each person having a piece from their yearlong concentration (which goes into their AP Art Portfolio at the end of the year), that each of these students worked hard to create amazing and beautiful drawings and paintings.
Although the reception was last Wednesday, May 8th, for the rest of the month of May the artwork will be on display in the Walpole Public library for everyone to see. And with the amount of art there, and the talent and creativity displayed, visitors should stop to see firsthand what students have worked to hard to create.
