Tina Fey and Steve Carell’s latest effort, Date Night, entertains audiences with humor, action, and romance. The two play a married couple falling on hard times and want to breathe some new life into their marriage. The adventure starts when Fey and Carell decide on a whim to dine at a fancy restaurant in the city because even their weekly date night has gotten to be more of an exhausting chore than a break from the daily grind. The only problem is their lack of a reservation at the restaurant. When Fey and Carell hear another couple’s named called they steal the reservation and mayhem ensues.
The comic duo powerhouse of Fey and Carell show great chemistry. Although the movie is slightly predictable, the comic duo balances out the trite plot. Because the onscreen couple has such good banter they are more believable and realistic. While the movie makes light of many issues that married couples face, Fey and Carell point out that they are universal.
The film also highlights how important love is in a relationship and shows how far some married couples will go to save it. Fey and Carell risk their lives for a romantic evening, and in the end they realize what they have in their marriage is a good thing. Even though their relationship may have seemed boring before, they realize it is still stable and they really love each other, which are two of the most important aspects in any relationship.
Date Night, although at times predictable, is at its heart a fun, entertaining, and comical film. Audiences will laugh at the antics of Fey and Carell, the problems they face, and the way they work through them. Fey and Carell’s performance as a married couple is relatable, and audiences may find their own problems not far off from the problems of the on-screen couple. Date Night takes a lighthearted look at life and love and entertains audiences everywhere.
