When the economy first began going backward a few years ago, clothing boutiques, electronic stores, resturants and retailers of every kind closed up and said goodbye. However, despite the current hard times of the economy, the frozen yogurt industry has recently been making a huge comeback. With a variety of different flavors and toppings, combined with a modern “froyo” shop setting—high-end furniture, Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions, and a “chill” atmosphere— the recent self -serve obsession has sparked the frozen yogurt industry to be going no where near cold.
Nowadays, it seems like new froyo places are sprouting up in towns everywhere and for Walpole this is no different, as Red Cherry opened their doors on Wednesday, May 22nd. At the corner of Main and Front Streets in Walpole, Red Cherry—a self serve frozen yogurt shop—launched their highly anticipated business. The shop has seating for up to forty people, along with twenty one different flavors of frozen yogurt, seven different syrups and fifty toppings. The owners of the shop, Donna and Bill Sidiropoulos, who worked in the food business fifteen years ago, believed the froyo shop was a great idea to get them back in the game. The idea actually came from their daughter, Evelynn who introduced them to the popular trend of frozen yogurt and plans on running the shop.
Red Cherry’s debut has instantly become the topic of many conversations around Walpole and the shop has already been seen by most people as a positive addition to the town. After visiting Red Cherry on the day of their opening, sophomore Caitlyn Hurley said, “I absolutely loved it and definitely think it will be a huge hit.” Many people around town are comparing the new froyo shop to Patriot Place’s Berry Yogurt and sophomore Bryan Kelleher said, “Red Cherry’s larger selection of flavors is able to satisfy more people’s tastes then Berry Yogurt.”
Before Red Cherry, Berry Yogurt was the most local frozen yogurt shop, but is a 15 minute drive for most Walpolians; now, Red Cherry is only a short drive from most Walpole homes. Additionally, everyone loves Red Cherry for their cheaper prices; the price per ounce for the froyo is $0.49 which is much cheaper than Berry Yogurt’s prices. The new froyo shop is the perfect place for all people to go cool down during the upcoming hot spring and summer months. Red Cherry’s family friendly environment makes for a great place for parents to bring their children, and its “chill” environment is loved by teenagers. Senior Sydney King said, “Not only can I buy two cups of froyo at Red Cherry for the same price as one cup from Berry Yogurt, but the clean and comfortable environment at [Red Cherry] makes for a great spot to hang out during the hot weather.”
Not only will Red Cherry provide frozen yogurt to the local Walpolians, but it is a great place for the eintire community, no matter what age people are. Senior Bridget Nicholson said, “You can feel the strong sense of community while walking through the doors of Red Cherry and that combined with superb customer service, cleanliness and amazing frozen yogurt makes everyone happy.” Since its opening, the people of Walpole have welcomed Red Cherry into their community and have proven the frozen yogurt industry is far from its freezing point.
