As the Rebels entered their first ever game against border rival Foxboro one could only wonder how they would do after graduating 17 starters.  With only a handful of starters coming back for the Rebels there was many question marks coming into the game.  This inexperience for the Rebels was not for a lack of talent but for how talented the Class of 2013 was.  However, the young Rebels squad was up for the challenge as they thrashed Foxboro 37-15 to open up their season.

The Rebels began their season just the way any young team hopes for: a strong start to gain momentum.  As Walpole began the game on defense Foxboro’s first play from scrimmage was a nightmare as the center’s snap went right over the head of the quarterback and into the back of the end zone for a safety which gave the Rebels the lead as they would never look back.  On the ensuing drive for Walpole senior Captain Connor Moriarty scored on the first play from scrimmage as he ran in a 49 yard touchdown while breaking numerous tackles to put Walpole in front 8-0 after a missed extra point.

As Foxboro’s offense failed to get anything started on their next drive they decided to fake the punt to try and jump start their lackluster team.  However, Dave Cuzzi’s Special Teams sniffed out this fake attempt as they stopped Foxboro right in their tracks as it gave Walpole once again great field position.  Senior Captain Will Bolster took advantage of this great field position as he connected with sophomore wide out Amire Loftis to bring the ball inside the Foxboro 10.  Moriarty capitalized on this as he ran the ball in to put Walpole up 16-0 in just the first few minutes of play.

Despite this momentum Foxboro came right back as they ran the ball down the inexperienced Rebels defense to answer Walpole as they made the score 16-8:  one of the few highlights Foxboro had all night.  This however did slow down the Rebels offense as Moriarty continued to run rampant as he tacked on two more touchdowns to close out the scoring in the first half to make the score 30-8.

The second half was much of the same as Foxboro struggled on defense and failed to put the ball in the end zone despite having no troubles moving the ball.  Sophomore Steve Cuqua tacked on the last touchdown for Walpole as he broke numerous tackles as he scored his first Varsity touchdown to put Walpole up 37-8.  As the backups went in for the Rebels they still played Foxboro’s starters tough despite letting up a late touchdown to end scoring at 37-15.

The Rebels hope to keep their momentum rolling as they travel to Needham on Friday September 20th as they try to improve to 2-0.
