In their lifetime, one in eight women will develop Breast Cancer. Men and women across the nation are taking action to raise awareness and fund research to better the odds. This year, once again, Walpole High School will be holding their own event to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer— the Pink Dance.
The Walpole High School Student Council is hosting their 2nd annual Pink Dance to raise money for Breast Cancer. It will take place on Saturday September 28th, 2013 in the high school cafeteria. The dance will get started at 7:00 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m.. Tickets will be sold Wednesday September 25th through Friday September 27th at lunch, and are $10 each. The dance provides a unique opportunity for students, as it is the only casual dance student council will host all year; however, students are encouraged to wear pink to support the cause.
The Pink Dance will be similar to last year, with a few changes to make it more enjoyable for students. DJ Blaque, who was a crowd-pleaser at the Freshman Semi last spring, will be returning for the Pink Dance. Student Council Event Chair Abbey Smith said, “We hope to get 250 students and make a profit over $500.” All the profits from the dance will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk on behalf of Walpole High School. Students will be participating in the walk in Boston on October 6. In addition to the money raised from the dance, anyone can donate money to the Walpole High School team through the Making Strides website.
The dance is held not only to raise money for the cause, but also raise awareness about Breast Cancer. As last year was a success for it’s first year as an event, this year’s Student Council will look for an even better outcome in order to keep running the event in future years.
