Although it is not physically evident in the town, many people in Walpole suffer from hunger. Even if they are overlooked, it is important that residents of Walpole work to support these struggling people. The Walpole Food Pantry is a local organization that collects food and helps support the hungry within the town. The National Honor Society of Walpole High School has recently created a food drive for students to donate items to the food pantry.
NHS has set up a donation bin in the high school’s front lobby, where students can drop off any donations for the Walpole Food Pantry. In addition, students are free to bring items to Ms. Laura Kay — the faculty supervisor of NHS — in room 1318 if it is more convenient. The collection will take place during this school week from Monday September 23 through Monday September 30.
The Walpole Food Pantry is an organization that provides families in Walpole with household and personal items that they are unable to afford. The items needed for donation range from food items to hygiene products. NHS is encouraging students to bring in any of the following items needed by the food pantry: food, paper goods, cleaning products, laundry detergent, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant.
Ms. Kay said, “The goal of the food drive is to support a very important Walpole institution. The Food Pantry helps out a lot of families in need in our community and we would like to raise awareness of the very real problem of hunger in our own community.”
NHS hopes that the students at Walpole High participate in this important event in order to support local residents suffering from hunger. The collection will help fight against hunger in the town and give items to families who are not able to purchase them otherwise. Students are encouraged to donate any items needed by the food pantry in the lobby of the school to support this important cause.
