Season five of “The Vampire Diaries” premiered on The CW network on Thursday, October 3. The Mystic Falls gang is catching up on the last few days of summer before going to college. Matt has been traveling the world with Rebekah, Elena and Damon have been enjoying life as a couple and Jeremy is pretending to be Bonnie via email to Elena and Caroline because Bonnie is dead. Jeremy, being able to talk to ghosts, is posing as Bonnie because she wants her friends to be happy and unaware of her death. Stefan is at the bottom of a waterfall drowning and suffering and Silas has taken his place.
Elena leaves Mystic Falls with Caroline for the ultimate college experience. Trouble predictably follows the pair. Their roommate Meaghan apparently has a connection with Elena’s father, but she dies because there is another vampire on campus. “The Vampire Diaries” is a great show, but the creators seem to be recycling the same old material that viewers have seen in the last couple of seasons. The writers need to come up with new material so the fans will not know what to expect when viewing the show, and will not be disappointed feeling like they have watched the episode before.
Katherine is now a human and Silas is after her. As a human, Katherine is more vulnerable and an easy target to all of her many enemies. The viewers will probably find out what Silas wants with her in the season finale. It seems as if the creators want to drag out story lines so that they don’t have to come up with more material. Furthermore, Elena has been having weird dreams about Stefan and she is worried about him. Should Elena call Stefan even though she is his ex and dating his brother Damon? Probably a good idea Elena, but she doesn’t.
“The Vampire Diaries” is becoming predictable about what will happen and very boring. This show needs more original storylines to make loyal viewers more excited to watch the show and not have them think of watching the show as a chore they need to do. The show seems to have made its highest peak in season three where a lot of people died and Klaus showed up.
On next week’s episode, Elena seems to know that Stefan is suffering and she wants to find him with the help of Damon. This whole love triangle thing just doesn’t want to go away and it is getting old. It will probably take at least a couple episodes to find Stefan because the cure from last season took many episodes to find. Who knows, maybe Elena will fall in love with Stefan again and Damon will be jealous again just like in seasons one, two, and three. Hopefully the episodes to come will be more original and the season may redeem itself and be amazing like the previous seasons were.
