Every year, the senior class is asked to participate in the creation of their yearbook—by submitting senior pictures, senior blurbs, and candids. One highly anticipated aspect of the yearbook is the voting and announcement of senior superlatives. Ms. Kerry McMenimen announced the superlative winners for the Class of 2014 on February 25 during the PLC Block in the Walpole High School Auditorium.
The members of this year’s senior class entered the auditorium anxious to find out the winners of this year’s superlative categories. McMenimen announced the names of the one male and one female who received the most votes from their peers for each category. After Ms. Mckenzie Gould and Ms. Lara Walleston gave certificates to all of the winners, the recipients went to a classroom where Henry Baker took photos of them to be placed in the yearbook.
Senior Remy Love, the winner of the “Most Rebel Pride” category, said, “It’s always exciting to find out who won the superlatives. I didn’t expect to win anything.”
Each year, the specific categories for superlatives continue to change depending on what the Yearbook Committee decides to include. This year, the Yearbook Committee specifically introduced one new superlative “Most Likely to Win the Hunger Games”. While some categories change, traditional superlatives were seen once again tis year—including “Most Rebel Pride”, “Class Clown”, and “Best Eyes”. Senior Jacqui Stratton said, “I like that each year the committee adds some funny superlatives to keep the voting interesting while still bringing back student favorites every year.”
The announcing of superlatives is one event that never fails to excite the senior class. They offer not only entertainment for the students but also a way to recognize students for their personalities and contributions to the class outside of the classroom, and are sure to be one part of the yearbook that students will always have to remember their classmates.
