With Kim Kardashian’s previous marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011 ending in a divorce after less than three months together, people had low expectations for the outcome of Kim and rapper Kanye West’s relationship. Regardless of her rough past with Kris, Kim appeared to be head over heels when images of her out with Kanye surfaced. As things became more serious, Kim announced she was pregnant, and in early June 2013, a baby girl – North West – was born.
After the elaborate proposal at the AT&T Park in San Francisco and months of planning, Kim and Kanye tied the knot over Memorial Day weekend. As expected, the wedding was over the top, located overseas at Belvedere Fort in Florence, Italy. Also, even before the big day the whole family spent time – and plenty of money – in Paris, France where the pre-wedding dinner and party was held at the renowned Versailles Hall of Mirrors.
At the pre-wedding bash, the couple flew singer Lana Del Rey out to Paris to perform at the rehearsal dinner, and although it was reported that she agreed to sing for 2 million dollars, Lana told TMZ she did for free. According to reports from the event, 600 friends and family were at the palace to celebrate the soon to be wedded couple.
The hottest topic from the wedding was Kim’s stunning custom made gown and veil. Riccardo Tisci, creative designer for Givenchy, is the man behind the masterpiece, which is estimated to have costed about $500,000. Despite the lofty price, the dress was truly exquisite, with lace longsleeves and pearl embellishments. In addition to the dress, Kim wore a conservative sheer veil which reached far past the train of the dress when set down.
Most of the family seems to have enjoyed themselves at the wedding, from the looks of the numerous images posted on social media. Yet, some of the wedding drama began when Rob Kardashian supposedly flew back to the U.S after the rehearsal dinner. Although the exact reason for his departure is unknown, some speculate Rob’s recent anxiety over his weight gain may have caused him to have a nervous breakdown. When asked about the situation, Kendall Jenner, Rob’s half sister, told Good Morning America, “He’s doing really well. He’s fine”.
The photo booth on site at the wedding reception was obviously a major hit, with various pictures from family to famous guests being posted on Instagram. One by-now-infamous photo from the booth shows Jaden Smith in a white batman costume posing with Kourtney K. and Joe Francis. Despite the stir the outlandish costume caused online, Kris Jenner praised his outfit choice and told HuffPost Live, “the Batman costume was really cool and fabulous…It wasn’t like a crazy thing. It was actually really fun.” The most popular picture, however, was the shot of Kim and Kanye’s first kiss that took over social media, raking in over two-million likes on Kim’s account.
The lavish wedding was very different from Kim’s previous publicly broadcasted ceremony with Kris Humphries which seemed like a publicity stunt and it certainly set the standard high for other celebrity weddings to come. Regardless of Kim’s troubles with past relationships, the newlyweds appear to be on a path to happiness and success in the years to come.
