Walpole Fall Sports Overall Record (63-33-11)
Golf (12-1) Walpole Golf’s victory over Framingham on October 14 was a strong finish to their regular season. After losing their first match to Newton North, the team was determined not to let it happen again, and the rest of the season was victory after victory to give them a final record of 12-1. The boys carried the momentum on to the Division 2 Sectional, where they placed second as a team, and their finish qualified them for All States next week.
Field Hockey (12-1-2) Field Hockey’s record changed on all ends of the spectrum in their past four games. The Rebels lost a tough game to Andover (4-1), and tied Wellesley (1-1) the next day. The Rebels then swept both Framingham (4-0) and Milton (2-0) consecutively in their next two games. The Rebels try to improve their record as much as they can to guarantee themselves a good seed for tournament. With their regular season winding down, the Porkers face Dedham in their next game on October 22.
Girls Cross Country (7-2) Walpole lost their dual meet to Milton with a score of 21-36 on October 14. The meet was to decide whether Walpole would make this year their fourth consecutive Herget title. Unfortunately, Milton took the top three spots and therefore, the title of Herget champs from the girls. The Rebels managed to then get back on track after winning an extremely close race against Milton (28-29) on October 21.
Girls Soccer (7-4-3) In their past four games, Walpole was victorious over Foxboro (2-1), Framingham (3-1), Milton (2-1), and also tied Wellesley (0-0). After adding seven more points to their total on the season, the girls need only one more to make postseason. With three games to go, Walpole has several opportunities to get the point they need. The Rebels face off against Dedham on Thursday, October 22.
Swimming and Diving (6-5) Swimming and Diving added both a win and two losses to their record. On October 13, the Rebels lost a tough meet to Framingham (84-97) and an equally tough meet to Needham (84-94) on October 20. The Rebels were able to break up the losses with a big victory over Notre Dame Academy with a score of 95-75. Walpole continues to improve their record, and should hope to advance as many individuals as they can to the postseason meets.
Boys Soccer (6-2-6) Boys Soccer beat Wellesley (2-0) and their game against Framingham resulted in a tie (0-0). Their next game was against Milton; an especially important game, for a victory would reward Walpole with two points and a ticket to the postseason. The Rebels won the game (2-0) and with the win, they punched their ticket to the playoffs.
Football (4-2) After a tough 7-6 loss against Wellesley on October 10, the Rebels knew they had to resurrect their winning streak in order to make tournament. The boys delivered when they crushed Natick in a 42-7 victory on October 16. The win helped to secure a spot to advance on to the tournament. The Rebels will be tested in their last regular season game against Dedham on Friday, October 23.
Boys Cross Country (4-5) Boys Cross Country won their meet against Milton with a very close score of 27-28. However, on October 21, the boys were unable to keep their streak alive and lost a tough meet to Weymouth (26-31). The Rebels final meet is against Needham and Braintree on Wednesday, October 28.
Volleyball (5-11) Rebel Volleyball’s last four games resulted in three losses and one win. The team lost to Wellesley (3-0), but was able to hand Framingham a powerful defeat by winning three sets to zero (3-0). Despite their victory, Walpole was unable to keep the winning momentum going and suffered two more losses, both to Medway (3-1) and Milton (3-2).
