Walpole Fall Tournament Outcome Records (4-2)

Girls Soccer In their first playoff game of the season, the 14 seeded Walpole Rebels defeated the 19 seeded Durfee Hilltoppers 8-1.  The game was the Rebels’ strongest offensive showing of the season, for three players scored two goals each: senior Julia Sandquist and juniors Tess Erwin and Tayla Randall.  Also, sophomore Hannah Perkins and senior Alyssa Rosen each notched one of their own.  Because of Walpole’s powerful victory in the Preliminary Round, they advanced onto the First Round to play 3 seeded Franklin.  There, the team unfortunately lost 3-1 and was eliminated from playoff contention.

Boys Soccer 8 seeded Boys Soccer took on the 9 seed, Dartmouth Indians, this past Friday, November 6, in their Division II South First Round game.  In the game, senior Belal El-Husayni scored the only goal between both sides that carried the Rebels on to a 1-0 win.  With the win, the team advanced on to play the 16 seed Medfield Warriors.  After that game, the boys too were eliminated from the tournament, but not after making as much an effort as they could.  For after ending regulation time with a score of 1-1, the Rebels and the Warriors went through two overtime periods without either team being able to notch a goal.  However, in the penalty kicks, the Warriors bested the Rebels and won the game.

Field Hockey  So far this postseason, the Porkers are 3-0. Walpole has bested Barnstable (7-0) and Canton (3-1) and Sandwich (2-1). In throughout their games, the team was dominant over their opponents, for during the game against Barnstable, Walpole kept the ball in Barnstable’s half the majority of the game.  Similarly, against Canton, Walpole maintained controll of the majority game; however, the team did not have as many offensive opportunities. In their most recent game, The Porkers were able to notch their third tournament victory over Sandwich, despite letting up several offensive opportunities leading to a late Sandwich goal. The Porkers, seeded 2, move on to sectionals to face the number 1 seeded team Mansfield at Oliver Ames on Saturday, November 14.

Swimming – The Rebels competed in the Bay State Swimming and Diving Conference meet at Wellesley college on Sunday, November 8. Seniors Julia Muller, Julie Hinton, and Emily Luong, as well as sophomore Carlie Cavanaugh qualified for states in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:06.09. Individuals from the relay team, senior captains Julia Muller and Emily Luong qualified for states in the 200 individual medley in 2:26.55 and for sectionals in 100 meter backstroke in 1:08.05, respectively. Junior Padraic Curran qualified for states in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.87.
