In this year’s Fall Classic, Red Sox fans will notice some familiar faces in both dugouts. Former Manager Terry Francona, first-baseman Mike Napoli, reliever Andrew Miller and left-fielder Coco Crisp are on Cleveland now and former General Manager Theo Epstein, starting pitcher Jon Lester, catcher David Ross and starting pitcher John Lackey are sporting Cubbie blue.

“It was great to see some former Red Sox compete for another title” said Walpole outfielder and diehard Red Sox fan, senior Paul Heffernan.

Chicago was the hardest test for the Indians this postseason, as the Cubs came off an astounding 103 win season and were determined to end their 108 year long championship drought. As for the Indians, their drought has dragged out into year 68.

The Indians surprised all of Chicago when they won Game Three on an RBI single by Coco Crisp to score the game’s only run. Cleveland sports website, Cleveland.com, reported  “Cleveland was absolutely dominant in the ALCS, but they come in as the underdog according to Las Vegas oddsmakers.”

Game Four at Wrigley Field was also won by Cleveland to take a 3-1 series lead. With their backs against the wall in Game Five the Cubbies, found themselves behind early in the game; however, they battled back behind a strong performance from Jon Lester and fought off elimination and won, 3-2.

The Chicago Cubs made history by defeating the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in Game seven. The game, which lasted 10 innings, marks Chicago’s first title since 1908. There was not a moment when fans were not on the edge of their seats. The Cubs jumped out to an early lead, 6-3 thanks in part to a home run by David Ross, but the Indians displayed some late game heroics and tied the game. However, the Cubs scored two runs in extra innings and were able to hold on for the win.

“One of the best World Series in our lifetime” added Heffernan. “It’s great to see the committed Cubs fans finally get rewarded for their efforts.”
