The Golden State Warriors made history after playing the Indiana Pacers on Monday, December 5. Klay Thompson became the first player in NBA history to score 60 points while playing fewer than 30 minutes. He was on fire from the opening tip, shooting 21-of-33 overall from the field and 8-of-14 from behind the three point arc. Thompson’s teammates got him the ball as he made almost every shot to lift the Warriors to a 142-106 victory.

What is really astounding about his performance is that Thompson did not see the floor the entire fourth quarter, so one can only wonder what could have happened in 12 more minutes.

The internet exploded in astonishment and praise for Thompson as teammates, other players and NBA legends tweeted their reactions to this amazing feat.

“Wow! Klay Thompson with 60 points in three quarters! Stop it Klay, Stop it!” said NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.

“The most fun I’ve ever had!…Good win fellas!” said teammate Javale Mcgee after the game.

Avid NBA fan, senior Stathis Kalemkeridis said, “I am not a huge fan of Golden State, but to see someone drop 60 points in only 29 minutes, it is really an amazing feat, and something that I have never seen before.”

Whenever a player scores 60 points, the question always arises if he or she could have beat Kobe Bryant’s 81 point mark (Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point mark is out of the question).

“Maybe. I think I could have, maybe one day I’ll have the opportunity,” Thompson said in an interview with ABC News. “But 60 in 29 minutes is not too bad.”

The game was already a blowout by the time the fourth quarter came around so Thompson was benched in the name of sportsmanship. Although many fans wanted to see him try to surpass 81 points, they will just have to sit back and hope for that day to come.
