Wellesley beat Walpole at the Reggie Lewis Center 74-26 on Dec. 22. Since Wellesley Boys Cross Country placed first in All States Division I, their distance boys lived up to expectations and took 26 of 27 points in the 1000m, the Mile and the Two Mile. While Walpole contributed with First Places in the 600m and the hurdles, those points were not enough to contain the Wellesley powerhouse.
For the boys 600m, senior captain Jack Kennefick placed an impressive first place with a time of 1:28 beating his previous performance against Norwood. Wellesley took second and third. Shortly after, Walpole snagged another four points against the Raiders in the boy’s 300m. Junior Sam Tudor placing second with a time of 39.35 followed by sophomore Jack O’Meara in third.
“Wellesley has many kids with a lot of talent,” said O’Meara.
Senior captain Brandon Kilroy emerged as one of the only first place winners. Kilroy ran the 55 meter hurdles and placed first with a time of 8.72, improving his previous time of 8.97. Kilroy defeated Wellesley’s Jackson Taylor with a time of 8.84.
Junior Zach Schultz placed first for the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.53. Schultz defeated Wellesley’s Wilkin Tajeda with a time of 7.93. Lochlann Clarke and Luke Sheehan also defeated Wellesley but finished behind Schultz.
“We are still a young team and will not stop working to improve ourselves,” said Schultz.
Corey Coogan who had previously coached mid distance, has become the new head coach of the team.
Coogan said, “I’m looking forward to the athletes improving through the rest of the season, and I hope this meet was a nice learning curve for the rest of the season.”
