Kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness month, Walpole High School Student Council held their second annual Pink Walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event attracted both high school and middle school students, as well as teachers and parents who walked through downtown Walpole and wore pink to promote breast cancer awareness within the community.
“I think the walk went great,” Student Council Vice President Annie Dolan said. “So far we’ve raised over $1,100 through our GoFundMe, and we received a lot of donations at the walk.”
Student council also encouraged middle school students and staff to attend the walk in order to be more inclusive and gain more support for the fight against breast cancer. Eleanor N. Johnson Middle School (JMS) had a pink spirit day and encouraged their eighth grade leaders to attend the walk.
“I was so impressed with the turnout. What a nice reflection of the Walpole community! It was so nice to see so many old JMS students as well. Truly a well run event. Many thanks to Ms. Mac who was really helpful and inviting to JMS in regards to the walk,” JMS Student Council Advisor Christine Svendsen said.
In addition to students, Walpole parents also attended the event and increased participation overall.
“It was great to see so many students and their families in attendance to support a cause that has affected so many in our community,” Walpole parent Deena Horne said.
