Gabby O’Hara
When did you first begin playing the sport?
7th grade.
Do you want to play this sport in college?
No.
Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?
My coach Josh from the club cheerleading team I competed on at Cheer Factor, because he helped me transition from gymnastics (which I had done up until seventh grade) to cheerleading and learn the different techniques of stunting, tumbling and jumping. He never gave up on coaching me to get the tumbling skill I wanted to get which was a double full.
How do you feel going into this season?
I am excited to compete this year because we have double the number of girls on varsity as we did last year (including seven freshmen), allowing us to perform more intricate stunts and score higher in areas such as tumbling. I am also confident that we will compete well and accomplish the goals set prior to competition season.
What are some goals set for the team this coming season?/How do you plan to achieve these goals?
Some goals we set are to get top three at Bay States, make it to States and get top 3 at States. A reach goal for the team is to make it to Nationals- in order to achieve these goals, our team has to give 100% effort at every practice and to do our routine as if we are competing, every time. I remind the team to put in the effort during practice if we want the results at competition.
Who are some big opponents/rivals? Why?
Braintree, Natick, Whitman Hanson – because year after year they have done extremely well at competitions and it tends to go back and fourth with who gets first.
Do you think the team will make tournament?/How far do you think you’ll make it?
Bay States and if we make it, States. I expect our team perform well as we have been working hard everyday at practice on our different skills and routine.
