Post Malone Releases Third Studio Album: Hollywood’s Bleeding
On Sept. 6, Post Malone released his third studio album, Hollywood’s Bleeding. The album follows his previous album, beerbongs & bentleys, from April 2018. Malone released four singles preceding the release of the album: “Sunflower” and “Wow.” in 2018, then “Goodbyes” and “Circles” in mid-2019, closer to the album release. “Sunflower” was a single for the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but Malone also included it on his new album due to its popularity and success.
The album opens with the album-titled song, “Hollywood’s Bleeding,” that transforms from alternative rock to hip-hop. The album is categorized as rap and hip-hop, as it includes more traditional hip-hop songs like “Wow.,” “Saint Tropez,” “Die For Me” and “On the Road.” However, a majority of the songs are a blend of many musical genres, like “Allergic,” “Take What You Want,” “Enemies,” and “I Know.” Many of the songs are a blend of rock, hip-hop, and pop styles, as Malone collectively mixes different genres and emotions into one song.
Malone also extends his hip-hop boundary with softer, more pop-sounding songs, like “A Thousand Bad Times,” “I’m Gonna Be” and “Staring at the Sun.” Some of the songs even sound like similar songs from Malone’s past albums, like “Myself,” including a piano sound like “Up There” from Malone’s debut album, Stoney.
Malone collaborates with a variety of artists, including DaBaby, Future, Halsey, Meek Mill, Lil Baby, Ozzy Osbourne, Travis Scott, Sza, Swae Lee and Young Thug. Also, Malone worked with Kanye West to produce the song “Internet,” that was leaked in 2018.
“At first, I didn’t like the album,” senior Clare Caulfield said, “but now, I love it. My favorite songs are ‘Enemies’ and ‘Staring at the Sun.’ I think he did a great job making a new album that’s different from his other songs.”
Malone announced the Runaway Tour to promote his new album, also featuring Swae Lee and Tyla Yaweh. The United States tour started on Sept. 14 and will end on Nov. 21. The tour will reach Boston at TD Garden on Oct. 8-9.
According to Billboard, Malone’s album earned 489,000 equivalent album units in the United States during its release week, giving his album the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was also streamed around 365 million times within the first week of its release. This is Malone’s second album in the number one spot, as his second album, beerbongs & bentleys, also debuted at the top of the charts.
The success of Hollywood’s Bleeding encapsulates Malone’s versatility as an artist who experiments with different genres—his music catches the attention of listeners who are eager to hear his unique and unprecedented sound.
