Girls Soccer Falls to Foxboro 2-0

Girls soccer fell to Foxboro (7-1-1) with a loss of 2-0 on Monday, Oct. 21. The tough loss brought their overall record to 2-9-2.

The Rebels fought a tough battle, keeping the score tied at zero until the last six minutes of the first half. The score remained 1-0 going into the second half.

“Coach was definitely not happy with our performance and showed us that at halftime and even without him telling us, we all knew that we were not playing anywhere near our best. We collectively knew we needed to pick it up and show Foxboro that we weren’t going to go down without a fight,” senior captain Sarah St. George said.

Walpole did not let down and continued to fight hard throughout the entirety of the second half. Despite the effort coming from everyone of the team, Walpole was unable to prevent Foxboro from scoring their second and final goal of the game, advancing the score to 2-0.

“Catie Powderly was a key player in the game. Her key saves gave us all hope and positivity in the game that we could win it,” senior captain Ainsley Dundon said.

By the end of the game, the Rebels had put up a great fight and ended the game with their heads held high leaving the loss on the field, ready to move forward and finish off their season strong.

“We continue to be frustrated by our record and the outcomes of several close games, but we know that we must continue to give 100% of our effort until the final whistle on the final game blows. We started writing ‘REBSOC’ in Sharpie on our wrists before games to remind us that we are playing for each other and that we are a family. I think that really helps us to stay motivated in games and to remain close as a team,” senior captain Hallie McLaughlin said.

The Rebels went on to play Natick on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The game ended with a tie at 1-1 and plan to keep this momentum going into their final games of the season.

“This season has been very unexpected to say the least. We started out with a new coach we knew nothing about and the loss of seven starters. Even though our record is bad, I don’t think that reflects our ability as a team,” St. George said. “Everyone plays so hard every game and leaves everything on the field. Even with a bad record we are not that upset about this season because this is the closest team any of us have ever been on and we have made many great friendships and had a lot of fun these past few months.”

The Rebels’ next game is Friday, Oct. 25 in Milford.
