5.) Grown Ups – Adam Sandler stars with Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider in the almost funny movie directed by Dennis Dugan, “Grown Ups”. The movie has no real plot other than all past friends renting a house with their children and playing around. The acting is lazy and seems as if the actors just rolled out of their lavish trailers, brushed their hair, and recited some lines. The jokes were suitable for an audience in middle school and that’s about it. The cinematography was dull and nothing on screen was very memorable.
4.) The Last Song – The only thing remotely good about this movie is that it’s tolerable. Miley Cyrus stars as the main character, Ronnie Miller, a reluctant teenager who has just moved in with her dad for the summer. Her parents in the movie had recently divorced and she has no positive outlook on life. Cyrus’ acting fell flat and the expression on her face doesn’t change from when she is fighting with her dad to when she is head over heels in love with her new boyfriend (played by Liam Hemsworth). This should be Cyrus’ last step in an acting career. The most exciting part of the movie is being able to watch turtles hatch on the beach.
3.) Valentine’s Day – Four Oscar winning actors and two nominees for awards seems like an ideal cast for a movie, but director Garry Marshall didn’t know what to do with all of them in “Valentine’s Day”. All were seen in what appeared to be an endless amount of vignettes that were accidentally jumbled together. The plot is as ludicrous as the holiday itself and seems to have no other purpose than to make money. The actors didn’t have any awe-inspiring scenes which deteriorated their credibility. The movie was as empty as the Sahara Dessert’s tourist list and had no zest about it.
2.) The Bounty Hunter – The romantic “comedy” directed by Andy Tennant lacks interest, a surprising plot, talented acting and jokes. The plot is quite basic and has a predictable outcome. The actors don’t show one ounce of chemistry and the script is loaded with over used clichés and nonsensical humor. To say this movie is both romantic and comedic is a joke in itself. The main character, Milo Boyd (Gerard Butler) is a bounty hunter who finds out that he has to catch his ex-wife (Jennifer Aniston0 as his next target. The two gallivant through the town on a bleak adventure of a story and shockingly find themselves back in love. The movie is lackadaisically put together and showcases no talent on screen, or behind.
1.) Avatar: The Last Airbender – The biggest catastrophe of the year was M. Night Shyamalan’s remake of the widely popular cartoon “Avatar: the Last Airbender” that aired on Nickelodeon for several years. The show is separated into three book and each episode is referred to as a chapter. It’s about one person, that avatar, being able to control the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air while coming into conflict with opposing element nations, but Shyamalan condensed the complex plot and made it a choppy mess. The movie looked as if it was going to bring the two-dimensional characters on the show to life with 3-D effects, but they did nothing to the movie seeing as how the actors’ abilities were still not visible. The movie shows book one of the television series, but M. Night Shyamalan certainly should not have the opportunity to destroy the last two books.
