Jada Pinkett Smith, 52, author and co-host of the “Red Table Talk,” sets the record straight with her new book “Worthy,” which hit shelves on Oct. 17. She delves into her struggles with depression, the infamous Oscars fiasco and her marriage with actor Will Smith. Pinkett Smith has opened up to all of the struggles in her life, and what she reveals has shocked readers and fans.
Pinkett Smith went right into the story of the Oscars in her memoir, revealing her side of what happened. When Pickett Smith saw the aggressive interaction between Will Smith and Chris Rock, she immediately thought it was a skit.
When asked about the Oscars slap, Pinkett Smith revealed to Fox News that she thought “the whole confrontation looked fake”. While the slap was the talk of the entire Oscars and was overpublicized by the press, Pickett Smith herself admits she was left confused by everything that happened. She then changes course of the memoir and focuses on how it was unclear why Will Smith was so upset since, unknowingly to fans, her and Will have been separated for seven years.
Even though she and Smith have been living separate lives from one another, she emphasizes it does not mean that they do not still care for one another. While they have been living separately, they have decided to not legally divorce. Pinkett Smith notes in the memoir that even separated, they stand together through hard times and strive for a healthy, separated relationship.
“I would stand with him in this storm as his wife, no matter what. I would not abandon him, nor would I fight his fight for him like I had tried to do so many times in the past”, Pinkett Smith wrote.
She then opens up about her dark past and her struggle with suicidal thoughts and depression, and how she felt that there was no way out from her internal conflicts. Even though most saw Pinkett Smith living the dream with her perfect family with all the high-end parties and fame, inside she was drowning in her thoughts.
“I think it was just a lot of unresolved trauma,” Pinkett Smith said to Fox News. “And, when we ignore, or we are not taking care of our mental health in a certain way, emotions get compacted”.
Yet, by getting the help she needs and surrounding herself with people who appreciate and support her, she has overcome her dark internal thoughts. She credits her family and friends for sticking by her side through the tough times. Pinkett Smith is proud of how far she has come and that she has the chance to speak about the events and struggles she has had to face in her lifetime.
When asked how she was doing today in an interview with Fox News, Pinkett Smith replied, “I’m fantastic”. “I just wanted to take the opportunity to share my journey in hopes that it might help somebody through theirs”, Pinkett Smith told Fox News.
