25-year-old singer Sabrina Carpenter recently released her sixth studio album “Short n’ Sweet” on Aug. 23, 2024. The pop album is produced by Julian Brunetta, John Ryan, Ian Kirkpatrick and Jack Antonoff. The album includes 12 tracks with three singles: “Espresso,” released April 11, 2024, “Please Please Please,” released June 6, 2024 and “Taste” on Aug. 23, 2024, which was released with the rest of the “Short n’ Sweet” album.
Carpenter will be touring her album making it her fifth concert tour and first arena tour. The tour will begin Sept. 23, 2024 in Columbus, Ohio. The conclusion of the tour will take place in Milan, Italy for a total of 47 shows. Amaarae, Griff and Declan McKenna will be the openers of the tour.
While Carpenter is known as a pop artist, many songs on her album incorporate other genres such as country, which can be seen in songs like “Slim Pickins.” It is clear by listening to the album that Carpenter has become a versatile singer, and it seems that in every album she releases, she continues to improve both within her lyrics and musicality.
While “Short n’ Sweet” is musically one of her most entertaining albums, each song has its own story behind it. One of her most popular lines from the song “Please Please Please” is “Please please please don’t bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice.” Many fans speculate how those specific lyrics and the song in general could allude to others not approving of certain relationships in her life. These lyrics however prove them wrong. In her song “Good Graces” the lyrics “Boy it’s not that complicated you should stay in my good graces” is the most well known line. This line references the difficulty of communication within relationships and the complications couples often go through. This has caught the attention of many of her teenage fans due to how relatable these lyrics are. Lastly, in her song “Taste,” the opening lyrics of the song“Oh I leave quite an impression, five feet to be exact” reflects on Carpenter’s growing confidence over the years as a singer as she has had to work for about a decade to get to where she is now.
Short n’ Sweet” is a must-listen to album because of its lyricism and creative style of writing that truly speaks to the demographic of her fans: teenagers.
“I love ‘Short n’ Sweet,’ I think it really brings out a new side of her and shows others that she has worked hard in her music career,” an anonymous WHS student said.
Carpenter is originally known for starring as Maya on the beloved Disney Channel Show “Girl Meets World” in 2013. Since filming this series took up a lot of her teenage years, fans have looked past her musical talent and only see her as a Disney star. However, with her growth and determination, fans now see Carpenter for her artistic abilities and not just her past.
Overall, fans are truly pleased by her new album and can not wait to hear what she’ll produce in the future.
“I didn’t expect to love the album as much as I did. I really hope she comes out with a new one soon,” an anonymous WHS student said.
This album really shows how Carpenter puts endless amounts of work into her music and really wants people to be able to relate to what she is writing about. “Short n’ Sweet” is a wonderful pop album to listen to if you want relatable, catchy and lighthearted music to listen to.
