Charli D’Amelio will begin her broadway debut of “& Juliet” at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Oct. 29 and will continue performing until Jan. 19. She will be playing Charmian which is a role of the dance ensemble. Her rise to fame on TikTok in the summer of 2019 left her with many opportunities as a now 20-year-old dancer. D’Amelio made her Broadway announcement on an Instagram post.
“[I’m] so incredibly excited to finally share that [I’ll] be joining the cast of [“& Juliet”] on Broadway!” D’Amelio said.
Social media made D’Amelio’s rise to fame possible, as she has reached over 150 million followers on TikTok. Since her rise to popularity, D’Amelio has posted TikTok dance videos and has also expanded her content on other platforms. She is currently posting day in the life videos of her rehearsals for the Broadway show while still being grossly in the public eye. The influencer is grateful for the opportunity as she has always wanted to be a dancer on Broadway.
“[This] has been my ultimate dream ever since I was a little girl, but it always felt like something [I] could only admire from a distance, never imagining [I’d] actually get to be a part of it,” D’Amelio said.
D’Amelio started dancing at three years old and was a competitive dancer for over ten years before she went viral on TikTok. The social media star also won Season 31 of “Dancing with the Stars” as a celebrity with professional dancer Mark Ballas prior to being casted on “& Juliet.” D’Amelio began to be taken more seriously as a dancer rather than just an influencer after winning. She and her teammate Ballas worked well together as dance partners, causing the general public to no longer view her as just a TikTok dancer.
“I have loved every second of choreographing for you [and] dancing with you, your hard work [and] incredible attitude made dances like this one possible,” Ballas said.
Those who have worked with D’Amelio all have positive comments towards her work ethic as a dancer. It is clear that she will thrive in her role as Charmian, as she has proven that she can perform well in engagements that she is a part of.
“[There are] so many vlogs coming, [I] am so excited to share this journey with all of you!!!” D’Amelio said.
Her recently posted TikTok videos include her getting ready for rehearsals, getting her rehearsal bag ready and driving to the location where rehearsals are held. D’Amelio will most likely continue posting these types of videos up until the show’s debut. The TikTok videos have so far received a lot of support in the comments and her followers are encouraging her to continue making these kinds of videos. Those who follow D’Amelio want to see her thrive in her new endeavors and wish her the best.
