As the Red Sox finished up their 162 games and the Patriots hit their midpoint, the Bruins and Celtics kicked off their seasons creating new excitement and anticipation for New England sports fans.
The Boston Red Sox, although displaying their efforts, ended their season with a .500 win-loss percentage, totaling out to 81 wins and 81 losses. This will be the third year in a row that the team has not been a part of the postseason. Additionally, they have not been featured in the World Series since their victory in 2018. Despite this, player Jarren Duran was awarded the All Star game MVP in early June for his spectacular performance on the field, bringing more attention to possible rising stars from this young team.
Coming up on the middle of their season, the Patriots are frustrating their local supporters. Their 1-6 record puts the team in last place of the AFC East Conference. The team started the season off with new head coach Jerod Mayo, former Patriots linebacker under former head coach Bill Belichick, to hopefully bring a different perspective to their game. Along with the new coach, new quarterback Drake Maye is promising to improve the team within the next few years as his career goes on.
Returning to the ice after making it to the second round of the NHL playoffs, the Boston Bruins are ready to get the season going at TD Garden. Starting the season off with a 8-3 record in the Atlantic division, the team is looking more promising than prior years. After the drama caused with starting playoff goalie Jermey Swayman and his signing, he finally was signed days out from the season opener. The 25-year-old goaltender will receive a $66 million pay for eight years as the franchise’s current top goalie.
TD Garden is picking up traction with not only the Bruins, but the reigning champions of the NBA, the Boston Celtics, also kicked off their season on Oct. 22. The Celtics look towards gaining back to back titles by starting the season off strong with an undefeated record. Jayson Tatum has made some changes to his game during the offseason, bringing attention to the possibility of him receiving this year’s MVP.
Even with the less than ideal outcomes of some New England sports teams, the Celtics and Bruins hope to bring new entertainment to major sports fans. The Patriots aim to fix their unsatisfactory record, The Bruins hope to defy expectations for this season and the Celtics work towards bringing home another championship for the city of Boston.
