The Walpole High School Film Festival is a club brings together students of all grades to contribute to creating movies in some way. The club started in 2002 and has been growing ever since. Students who participate in the Film Festival create crews that and produce make the short films throughout the year. After creating the movies, the annual film festival is held with red carpet events, fundraisers and viewings of the movies.
“Film festival is very unique… The whole community comes together because all the grades are talking to each other to film movies, so that helps build the community,” club advisor Michael Alan said.
The club’s annual film festival is the highlight of the year. It’s an event where students, parents and teachers gather to watch the films made by the members of the film festival. The club takes so much work and dedication that it is offered during school as a class. Mr. Alan teaches the film classes where he gives each production crew the proper equipment to make high quality films and movie posters. The students involved in this extracurricular are responsible for numerous different roles including directing, acting, scripting, filming, and more. The club is unique because a student does need to take a film class to have a role in any respective movie.
Students who are not in a film class have the opportunity to act in the films and help production crews on scripts and filming, offering a very unique experience for those who are not quite able to fit the class in their busy school schedule.
