Walpole High School French teacher Margaret Kwasnik has been running the French Club for two years, after the club was passed onto her by Kathy Frattasio, who had been running the club since 2002. The club aims to teach curious students more about French culture. One of the benefits of the club is that it gives students enrolled in French the opportunity to practice their speaking, reading and writing skills as well as the chance to spend time with other students enrolled in French.
“The main goal is to just enjoy and be excited about French. [The club’s goal is to] get more students to participate and be excited about it because that’s the way we can keep the French program strong and going for the foreseeable future,” Kwaznik said. “I’m happy for anyone who’s excited about French and wants to participate.”
Additionally, members work together to brainstorm and organize different French related events to host and partake in. Some activities include trivia nights, trips, trips to museums and cafés, playing games and trying French foods
“Our first [trip] is to see the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in October,” Kwaznik said. For that we all meet and take the train into Boston, go to the museum, then we’ll usually go to some sort of place for dinner, whether that’s a cafe that has a little bit of French culture or just somewhere fun in Boston.”
Kwasnik encourages all students, whether or not they are enrolled in French, to take part in the club.
“It’s open to everybody, anybody can come and be part of the French club and we do sometimes have people who don’t take French or who used to take French and have stopped, but still want to come to some of the French club events and that’s definitely encouraged because the more people we have to more fun it is. I’m happy for anyone who’s excited about French and wants to participate.”
The club meets once a month in Room 1333. Meetings are announced on the morning news.
