The Humane Society is geared towards the people who have a love for animals. The club’s main purpose is to raise money and donate to local animal shelters. The club advisor is Alison Wilson, and the clubs’ goal for this year is to expand the charities they work with. This year, they want to start donating to charities that work with marine animals.
“We raise a few thousand dollars every year to donate to different animal shelters, and then for fun we’ll visit the animal shelters and meet the animals,” Wilson said.
At their meetings, they discuss ideas or plan upcoming fundraisers. Their major fundraiser is creating their annual pet calendar. Teachers and students can send in pictures of their pets, and they are put on pages of a calendar. They have always been very successful with this fundraiser, and they hope to be just as successful this year.
Other fundraisers include bake sales at the school plays and some dance company performances.
The club takes great pride in researching the charities to donate to. Not only do the charity’s donations help with the animals from their money providing food and shelter, some go to schools to educate children about animals.
“Every meeting looks different, but it is always a good time,” Wilson said.
Anyone who is interested in helping animals, visiting animal shelters and researching animals should consider joining this club. They meet every other Thursday in the transition room. If you are interested in joining, you can attend the meetings or email club advisor Wilson to inquire about being added to the google classroom.
