Advised by Spanish teacher Kathryn Bacon, the PM club allows students to explore the city and learn about the environment around them. The club was introduced to the school many years ago and is still running today.
In 2020 the club paused indefinitely because of the pandemic, but restarted after student Dylan O’Connell suggested to Bacon that they should bring the club back. O’Connell believed that it was needed in the school to connect students face to face. The PM club does exactly this, allowing students to connect with one another in an effective way.
“This club provides a safe space for all different types of kids,” Bacon said. “No athleticism needed!”
This club gives students the opportunity to visit many different places especially in Boston. Once every month, students are given the chance to decide and vote on where they would like to visit. Bacon explains that this club is a democracy and every student gets a voice. Every club meeting is after school, hence it being called the PM club. Around 10-15 students get the chance to go to many places in or around the city, often via public transportation in order to learn their way around the city. In past years, members of the club have gone on bike tours, visited locations such as the New England Aquarium, the Museum of Fine Arts, escape rooms, swan boats and ice skating.
“The meeting times are organizational, so it depends when we have our meetings, but they are always after school and events are always on Fridays,” Bacon said.
If you are interested in joining this club, you can reach out to Ms.Bacon by talking to her in person, emailing her or listening to the announcements for any information on the club. Bacon explains that this club is great for anyone who is open to new experiences, new to Walpole High School, looking to get involved in a friend group or if you aren’t in any clubs and you are looking for one. This club contributes to the school’s community by adding a safe space for all different types of students!
As you can see, the PM club goes to different places around the city and is welcome to all students. If you are looking for a club to join, join the PM club!
