There was nothing quite like this club until many years ago WHS brought to existence a Random Acts of Kindness Club, which partakes in different activities that help spread kindness. This club was established by a different teacher before Ryan Conlon, as he just recently started running the club one year ago. The president, Mia Destito also became president for this club this year. She got nominated for this role as the former president, because of how involved she was in the club in the previous years. She organizes events, meetings, and runs the club. This club helps spread kindness to our community, give back to the people who assist us in our day to day lives and make an impact in our community everyday. This club focuses on spreading kindness simply for the joy of seeing others happy.
“This is a safe space for everyone to help the community through little things and provides ways to give back to the community” he says.
The club is completely student run. The president who is a student creates all the activities and decides how each meeting will run. The activities vary based on each meeting but the activities that they do mostly involve the school but sometimes are involving out of school. Activities include, decorating bulletin boards, making kindness cards, painting pumpkins in the fall and leaving positive affirmations around the school. A good amount of kids show up and partake in activities that always involve kindness.
“The meetings are informal, the president Mia Destito runs them, usually 20-30 kids show up and the activities involve writing cards, decorating or writing on bulletin boards and posting things around the school.”
The club focuses on kindness activities that are random or unexpected. Kindness is a big part of our everyday lives and a simple act of kindness always makes someone’s day better. All the activities in this club are for the joy of being kind and having a good heart in an attempt to make others happy. We write cards to the people who have a great impact in our community, we post things around the school that always are kind, like affirmations, and we decorate the bulletin boards to include some sort of kindness so the whole school can see and be reminded how being kind is simple and has a huge impact.
“The goal in this club is to give back to students or teachers and for everyone to feel welcome no matter who they are.”
It serves as a place for people to give back to their community. Additionally, as the club only meets once a month, students can participate in the club without committing too much of their time. For students who are interested in joining, contact Conlon or Destito and they will invite you to the next meeting and add you to the google classroom.
