WHS’s UNICEF club, which began in 2021, is a student organization that raises money to donate to the UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) organization. UNICEF is a charity organization that provides aid to children around the world. The club is led by club president Sandhya Moorthi, vice president Sara Axelrod, secretary Vanessa Kadilli, treasurer Zena Girhotra and communications officer Blanka Lazri.
“I hope it becomes a club with many members and many regular yearly fundraisers,” Moorthi said.
The club usually starts off with going over what the previous meeting was about. They then go over current fundraisers in the works. UNICEF club ends with sharing the monthly message. Some activities that may occur could be filling easter eggs for Easter. Over the course of the year the group contributes by having many events and projects for funding. They also are currently collaborating with The Red Cross club with running the Nocturnal Trails for trick-or-treating.
“For our next project we’ll be partnering with the WHS Red Cross club and the Friends of Bird Park for the yearly Pumpkins in the Park event,” Moorthi said.
The group is also looking forward to gaining as many members as possible. With more people they club would be able to have more people to help out therefore being able to donate more to the organization.
“Our goal is to donate as much money as we can!” Moorthi said.
The organization focuses to help children in different countries who lack food, water and education and all the proceeds go to support them. The money the club gets all goes to supporting these ideas. The UNICEF club is looking for new members, so students who are interested in joining can attend a meeting to learn more about the club. UNICEF Club meets on the first Thursday of every month in room 2308.
