This year, the Women’s Self Defense Club is running once again to offer students a sense of positive community in addition to practical safety skills.. The club, which originally started in the 2021-2022 school year, is led by faculty adviser Courtney Nottebart as well as seniors Emma Wagonfeld and Madilyn Cataloni.
Wagonfeld describes the club as a “positive community that works together to boost each other and ourselves up as well as doing community service”.
“Our goal is to create a safe and supportive community for the young girls at our school where they can build confidence and have the opportunity to learn how they can keep themselves safe,” Wagonfeld said.
The Women’s Self Defense Club is a way to let women understand how to defend and protect themselves while boosting each other’s confidence. The club expresses domestic violence is far too overlooked, therefore it is important that the club spreads awareness and gives a series of situations where the women have to protect themselves and their loved ones around them. As the club is just beginning to restart, the adviser and student leaders must make goals surrounding what they want to come out of this club.
“We are looking forward to most about our club getting to see it grow and see familiar and new faces come together and support each other. We look forward to the knowledge we gain ourselves and that we are able to provide our classmates with,” Wagonfeld said.
If interested in an empowering community to learn how to defend while transitioning into the future and want to be a part of a tight-knit group, email Nottebart, Wagonfeld or Cataloni for more information.
