The Hunger Games is a popular book series, featuring three books – The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. Author Suzanne Collins helped to write the screen play for the movie based on the first book, so it should be very similar to her fantastic books.
The Hunger Games story has attracted many teenagers and adults alike. It tells a story about a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem, where North America once existed. Once every year, a “reaping” takes place, in which one boy and one girl is chosen from each of the thirteen districts. The chosen kids then venture into an arena, where they must fight till the death until there is only one left standing. One of the main characters, Katniss Everdeen (otherwise known as “the girl on fire”), is unfortunate enough to be forced to enter the arena from her home district – District 12, along with Peeta Mellark (otherwise known as “the boy with the bread”). The two then have a planned romance in order to both survive the games.
The Capital – representing a modern day dictator-like government – is furious when Katniss and Peeta attempt to rebel against their rule. Being one of the first efforts ever to rebel against the Capital, Katniss then becomes a symbol for freedom.
Between the never ending action within the arena and all of the unexpected twists and turns of the story, The Hunger Games is a very successful book, and the movie is sure to follow in its footsteps. Although some people may see the book to be similar to the Twilight series – whose movies did not live up to expectations – The Hunger Games movie is sure to please fans everywhere.
The Hunger Games movie is set to hit theaters this Friday at 12:01 AM. Most showings are already sold out through Saturday, due to its extreme popularity among a variety of eager kids and adults.
